Linda O'Brien: Vice Principal, Information and Chief Information Officer

Role: Linda is responsible for providing leadership in the development and implementation of the University's information strategy, a key aspect of which is the management of the University's Libraries, records and information management services, information and communication technology services and the underpinning enterprise IT systems and infrastructure. Linda represents the University in relevant national and international forums. Linda joined the University in 2004
Background: In previous roles within other universities, Linda has been accountable for all university administrative and service functions, secretary to the university council and held a range of library and IT management roles. Linda has formal qualifications in education, library and information science, public sector management, has completed the Australian Company Directors Diploma and is a Member of the Australian Computer Society. Linda is currently a board member of the Victorian Partnership for Advanced Computing and the Victorian Education and Research Network (VERNet).
Angela Bridgland: Deputy Principal Information Services and University Librarian

Role:Angela's role is to work with the Vice-Principal Information and the Deputy Principal , Planning and Projects to provide strategic, University-wide leadership in library, information, education and information technology planning, policy, services, systems and infrastructure. Angela leads and manages a group comprising the Manager, Communication and Marketing, the client relationship manager team, the publications team, the organisational development team and the Shared Services/ITIL Project Director.
Background:Angela commenced her career as a teacher librarian, then became an academic, lecturing for 18 years in library and information management in both Tasmania and Victoria where she served a period as elected Head of both of her academic departments. In 1987, she was awarded the first Fellowship of the National Library of Canada where she developed an integrated staff development plan for the library's employees. In 1994, she began working for the Library at the University of Melbourne, first as the Director, Management Services, then as Associate Librarian, Management and Development Services. When the Information Services was formed, Angela was initially appointed Director of the Library, and then, with the first re-structure, Director of the newly established Teaching, Learning and Research Department. As a result of the 2004/2005 re-alignment, Angela became one of the two deputies to the Vice-Principal Information. Angela has been an active member of the Australian Library and Information Association and has served two terms on its Board of Education and two terms on its Board of Directors.

Sendur Kathir: Director, Deputy Principal Information Services, Director Information Technology

Role:Sendur is responsible for the management of Enterprise Systems for the University. Sendur has seven managers and around 50 staff. Sendur began his employment with the University in March 2005.
Background: Sendur previously worked for KAZ Technology Services, a wholly owned company of Telstra. Before joining the University of Melbourne, Sendur worked in the consulting industry for five years in both the public sector and private enterprise. Previously, Sendur spent eight years in the Telecommunications industry working for Fujitsu Australia. His most significant work achievement was the deployment of the Optus optical fibre routes in Australia, including management of the implementation of the first optical fibre route between Melbourne and Sydney. Sendur has Bachelor's Degrees in Science and Engineering, and an MBA.
John Julian: Director, Student System Projects

Role: John is Project Director accountable for the implementation of a replacement for the Student Administration System. The existing student administration and student information systems will be replaced with the Student Management system from TechnologyOne with initial go-live in mid 2008 and project conclusion in mid 2009.
Background: John began his career at the University of Melbourne in the Metallurgy Department and then as lecturer in the Centre for the Study of Higher Education. He moved to Chisholm Institute of Technology (now Monash University) to work as principal lecturer and head of the Educational Development Unit. After the amalgamation of Chisholm with Monash University, he worked in a variety of senior roles, eventually becoming Acting Associate Registrar. After stints at the Open Learning Agency of Australia and Emerge - Victorian Cooperative Multimedia Centre, he returned to Monash as the director of the Integrated Administration Systems project, before returning to his roots in 2001, taking up a similar role of director of the University Systems Project (USP) at Melbourne. John has bachelor degrees in education and applied science, a Master of Science (Education) and a Master of Business Administration.

Andrew Yeoh: Director, Information Technology User Services

Role: Andrew is responsible for providing University-wide leadership in a client-focussed environment for IT service delivery and is accountable for the provision of a broad range of information technology services to support the University’s staff and students. The IT services provided include the service desk and technical support, security, desktop procurement, software licensing and research computing support.
Background: Andrew has previously worked in a variety of IT roles in both commercial enterprises and the education sector. He started his working career as a computer applications trainee at BHP after finishing studies at RMIT. After working for a couple of years, he returned to RMIT as a tutor initially and then as computing systems manager in supporting their central administrative systems. After eight years at RMIT, Andrew joined BP where he held a number of IT service management positions. He was responsible for planning, developing and implementing a number of information systems strategies for business units at BP and for management reporting to London on IT projects in the Australasia region. Andrew joined the University in 1996 as Manager, Shared Systems in Information Technology Services, where his key role was to provide support for central server systems management and database administration services. Since then Andrew has progressed to other management roles.
Donna McRostie : Director, Information Management

Role: Donna’s role is to provide University-wide direction and leadership in the
University’s enterprise information, both scholarly and corporate, to support the
University’s staff and students, and where appropriate, the broader community.
Background: Donna commenced her career her as a Library Assistant at the
University of South Australia. In 1989 after moving to Melbourne she started in a
casual role in the University of Melbourne which led to a continuing position in the Records section in 1990. Donna has since worked in a number of roles in the records and archival profession within the University and its affiliates including becoming the Manager Records Services in 2000. Donna is a professionally qualified Records Manager and Archivist and has a Graduate Diploma in Information Management and Graduate Certificate of University Management.
Jenny Ellis : Director, Scholarly Information

Role: Jenny is responsible for leading and managing the Scholarly Information program of the University Library. As Director, she provides leadership in the formation of strategy, policy and frameworks for the delivery of scholarly information services. Scholarly Information encompasses Library and Student IT support, resource discovery, information literacy, research support services and the effective use of ICT to enhance teaching and learning, management of teaching spaces and online learning environments.
Background: Jenny has had a long association with the University of Melbourne in several different roles. After graduating BA (Hons), Jenny taught in the History department at the University for some years, acting as a Tutor, Lecturer and postgraduate research student. Some years later, Jenny qualified as a professional librarian and has since gained broad experience across the University Library. Jenny has also developed expertise in the administration of copyright compliance in the University environment. In 2004, Jenny accepted an appointment as Copyright Officer in the Faculty of Arts and subsequently returned to Information Services to assume responsibility for the management of the University Copyright Office. Jenny has postgraduate qualifications in Intellectual Property Law.
Jock Murphy : Director, Collections

Where Based: Level 4, Baillieu Library
Role: Jock is responsible for leading and managing the Collections Program of the
University Library and the Information Services Division and supporting the work of the Deputy Principal Information Services and University Librarian. The Collections Program comprises Cultural Collections, Collection Development and Collection Access and therefore focuses on the acquisition of material and the stewardship of the University's Library, Archival and Cultural Collections.
Background: From 1980 to 1991 Jock held the positions of Curator of Maps and then Curator of Australiana at the University Library. He then moved to the State Library of Victoria where he was appointed to the position of Manuscripts Librarian. During his time in that position he played a significant role in managing the acquisition of a wide variety of heritage material for the State Collection, much of it of national importance. He was also responsible for managing relationships with many external stakeholders and donors. In 2006 he was appointed to the position of Collection Services Manager with responsibility for the management of the State Library’s heritage collections. He holds a Bachelor of Economics and Graduate Diplomas in Librarianship and in Management and was appointed to his current position in 2008.
Colin Blythe: Acting Director, Infrastructure

Role: Colin is responsible for leading information and communication technology infrastructure services for the University. This includes areas such as data centres, networking, telephony, telecommunications, computer servers, operating systems and data storage, identity management, directories and systems authorisation and systems access. Physical ICT infrastructure relies on Property and Campus Services and hence is developed in collaboration with Property and Campus Services staff. The Infrastructure programme has five managers with more than forty staff.
Background: Colin has worked in a variety of IT roles in the commercial arena. He started his working career as a graduate engineer with the New Zealand Post Office. Moving to AWA he spent 10 years developing and supporting industrial processing and control systems. Colin helped deveop the retail management system, and especially its management infrastructure, for NZ Post, and oversaw the deployment of the system to some 400 retail outlets across New Zealand. Colin migrated to Australia in 1997 to take a support management role in Australia Post, as they began the re-development of their retail system, which saw over 10,000 new computers deployed to 2,900 retail outlets. Colin has also worked in the consulting arena and for a major Australian bank before joining the University 4 years ago as Manager Networks & Telecommunications.
