Current Key Projects
The Infrastructure Planning and Architecture provide ICT strategic alignment, architectural design and technical procurement support for a range of projects and initiatives. The IPA group are currently providing services to the following enterprise projects:
LMS
The LMS project will provide an enterprise wide learning management system. IPA have provided architecture design, infrastructure procurement support and implementation planning services.
LMS ASP DR
The Disaster Recovery service for LMS is being provided by the LMS vendor as a fully managed service. In the event of a disaster, LMS will be accessed from an external site, with access and functionality appearing to be exactly the same as it is currently at The University of Melbourne.
IPA have been instrumental from contractual negotiations through to technical design and implementation planning and testing of this service.
Themis
The enterprise ERP system, Themis, is currently being upgraded and will eventually comprise integrated business elements from Finance, Human Resources, Research and Student Systems.
IPA are supporting this project by providing architecture design, infrastructure procurement support and implementation planning services.
Student Facing Systems DR
Following an audit of disaster recovery planning and infrastructure in 2006, this project has been instigated to deliver consolidated disaster recovery infrastructure and services for key student facing systems during the course of 2007.
Student System
Student One has been selected as the replacement Student System for Merlin and SIS and will be deployed during 2008. This system will provide enhanced functionality, especially with regards to online services.
IPA are supporting this project by providing reference architecture, infrastructure procurement support and implementation planning services.

Provision of business analysis assistance to assess the Infrastructure requirements, licensing & project costs for an expanded roll-out of TRIM as part of the eXchange project.
TOGAF
Adoption of TOGAF framework to provide a comprehensive approach to the design, planning, implementation, and governance of an enterprise information architecture.
Reference Architecture
Development of reference architectures using TOGAF Architectural Development Model (ADM) principles to align to the future needs of Growing Esteem (in development). Documentation of 'As Is' component and domain architectures. Development of 'To Be' models for component and domain architectures (in development).
CMDB
Analysis and design of CMDB to improve quality of IS service provision and aid. Development of scripts for initial population of CMDB.
IPA Process Mapping
Definition of departmental processes including Procurement RFT/RFQ process maps and documentation templates. Creation of departmental document templates e.g. Business Solution Requirements, Reporting, etc.
Infrastructure 5 Year Strategic Plan
Creation of Infrastructure 5 Year Strategic Plan, aligning IPA with Growing Esteem.
Infrastructure 2007 Operation Plan
Creation of Infrastructure 2007 Operational Plan.
Server & Storage Consolidation
Consolidation strategy for Central Admin Server & Storage environments.
IS Security Management Framework Proposal
Creation of a strategic framework for the effective management of IS security.
