Server Filtering (Staff)

Every message that is centrally scanned for spam is given a score. To allow the server to filter mail automatically, a mail header (X-Spam-Score) is added to each email.

To configure filtering on this header on the server you must use the staff webmail interface.

  1. Log in to the staff webmail system.

  2. Go to the "Options" screen and click "Message Filters".

  3. Click "Add SPAM Rule".

  4. Check "If this rule matches, do not check any rules after it".

  5. Click "Add SPAM Rule" (same button name as before, different page).

  6. Click "Save Changes" to apply the rule.

This will result in a default rule that files all messages with a score of 5 or above into a "Spam" folder.

If you want to customise the score setting, white-list (never filter) particular addresses or discard messages instead of using the "Spam" folder, choose "Advanced Spam Filter..." after step 3 and complete the extra settings appropriately.

Mail in the "Spam" folder will be automatically deleted after 7 days, even if it has not been read.

More detailed information on configuring server filters is contained in the staff email message filtering guide.
