Server Filtering (Students)

Every message that is centrally scanned for spam is given a score. To allow the server to filter mail automatically, a mail header (X-Spam-Score) is added to each email.

To configure the server to filter on this header, you must do the following:

  1. Log in to the student webmail system.

  2. Go to the "Manage" section.

  3. Under "Advanced Functions" locate the "Update Spam-Score setting"

  4. Enter the score you would like to filter on (or 0 to disable). Each spam message is given a score; the higher the score, the more likely that this particular message is spam.

A good starting value is five, but see what works best for you. Because of the danger of losing legitimate email if messages with low spam scores are filtered, webmail will not let you set the filter score lower than three.

  5. Click on the "Update Spam-Score setting" button.

Messages which have a score equal to or higher than the value you have chosen will now be automatically be deleted. WARNING: these messages cannot be recovered.
