Using the Pine Email Client

Staff wishing to use PINE to access their University email will need to have a user account on ariel or have access to a local Unix computer.

To correctly configure PINE to access the University email server, staff should use the following sample .pinerc file.

1. Login to your ariel account
2. Run the command: wget -O $HOME/.pinerc http://www.infodiv.unimelb.edu.au/email/staff/downloads/.pinerc

If you have an existing .pinerc file, wget may not automatically overwrite it. In this case, delete the original file and rename the new file to .pinerc and PINE will now be configured to access your IMAP mail folders automatically.
