Webmail Quota InformationStaff at The University of Melbourne have an automatically enforced quota of 100MB on their email account. This quota applies whether the account is accessed using POP3, IMAP or webmail. If you are over your quota, you will not be able to delete messages using webmail unless you follow disable the Trash folder. You will receive a warning message when you reach 90% of your quota (i.e. 90MB) and another when you reach 100%.
Whenever you are logged in to webmail, the top left hand side of the screen will show you how much of your quota you are using, both in percentage and graphical form. If you are using less than 90% of your quota, the graph will be green. From 90 - 100% the graph will display in yellow, and over 100% it will show in red. Once you are over 100% of usage, no new mail will be delivered and you will need to reduce your account usage by deleting some messages. Reducing your quota usageIf you are over quota, the easiest way to delete messages from your account is through the webmail interface.
Simply select the messages you wish to remove, click "Delete" to move them to the Trash and then click the "Check mail" link to update the folder information. The messages you selected for deletion have not yet been deleted, so click the "Purge" link next to the Trash mailbox. Disabling the Trash folderIf your account is over-quota, you will see an error message when you try to delete your messages using webmail. This error occurs because the process of moving email to the Trash folder creates a new message, then deletes the original. If the creation of a new message is attempted when your account is full, the server will give an error message.
To avoid this problem, you will need to configure the webmail interface not to move messages to the Trash folder when being deleted. This is done by selecting "Do not use Trash" from the "Options" » "Folder Preferences" menu and clicking "Submit" to save your preferences. This screen also allows you to select where (or whether) you would like to save draft and sent messages. Note that any folder preferences configured via the webmail interface only apply when using webmail. They will not be used if you are checking your email via a desktop client. |
