DNS Renewal Project
Importance of DNS at the University of Melbourne.
The University’s reliance on networked applications for its core teaching,
learning and research functions is continuing to grow and as a result a
dependable Domain Name System (DNS) infrastructure is an ever more critical IT
service. The DNS service is fundamental to these networked applications because
it provides University networked applications and users with the vital
mechanism to translate domain names into IP address.
What will the Renewal Project deliver?
New server hardware
A major component of this renewal will be the replacing of the four
DNS servers that were commissioned in 2000/2001.
New DNS service architecture
The new DNS architecture will deliver a more responsive, highly
available and secure DNS service.
New group to manage it
The new DNS service has been designed, implemented and will be
managed by the Identity and Access Management group.
Who is involved in the Project?
