The University of Melbourne Active Directory
OverviewInformation Services(IS) provides Micrsoft® Active Directory® Service to departments,faculties and affiliates in order to provide the University community with maximum flexibility and control over their own local infrastructures (eg: Windows Servers/Clients, Apple MACs, SAMBA) while leveraging of the core authentication of the Active Directory(Kerbros) and central account management service. **-Update: Based on IA's review, the Active Directory is being restructued, please refer to the following link: BackgroundThe Active Directory at the university was established in 2001 as a result of the Windows 2000 Working Group recommendations in February 2000. Since the its implementation, Active Directory had been maintained by the LAN Server Group. Recent re-structures (2005) within Information Services (IS), has seen the LAN Server Group absorbed into Systems Infrastructure(SI) of IS and the reasonability of Active Directory Service assigned to Identity & Access (IA) of IS.
