The purpose of this section is to provide information about Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to local IT staff.

A staff Account is in the wrong department, how do I correct this?

A staff member complains they do not have access to their home folder or access to their department resources in a shared, what is wrong?

A staff Account is in the wrong department, how do I correct this?

Active Directory is updated daily with information from HR(Themsis). As soon as HR process the paper work for a new staff member or for a staff member transferring departments, Active Directory will be updated during the daily feed. If you find a staff member's user account is not moving into the correct department it could be related to this know issues.

A staff member complains they do not have access to their home folder or access to their department resources in a shared, what is wrong?

Most likely security permissions on the department /faculty local file server. Identity and Access do not manage access (authorisation) to local resources such as servers or workstations where staff users access shared departmental files and home folders. If the issue is related to a Information Service / Shared services department please log a incident to the service desk asking the job to be directed to the Windows Server Team of Systems Infrastructure. Otherwise please contact your local department / faculty service desk.

I require a folder on Information Services server so only certain members of a security group can access, how can this be done?

Identity and Access do not manage access (authorization) to resources to local servers. In Information Services authorization to server resources is managed by the Windows Team of Systems Infrastructure. If you require this service, please log a incident to the service desk asking the job to be directed to the Windows Server Team of Systems Infrastructure.

How do I get my department on to the Active Directory?

All business units of the university are in the Active Directory, meaning all staff now have Active Directory accounts.
