Domain Name System (DNS)
The DNS service is responsible for translating human readable hostnames into numeric IP addresses and vice versa.
It is a key component of the networking infrastructure, and without it higher level services such as email and web browsing will cease to function.
At the University of Melbourne the DNS infrastructure consists of two distinct services:

To take advantage of the highly available central DNS service from a computer on the University Network your configuration should be as follows:
