Resolving DNS Service

The role of the resolving DNS service is to provide computers on the University network with answers to all of their recursive DNS queries. University computers are entirely dependent on the resolving DNS servers for answering their queries since they have no recursive DNS capabilities themselves. This places the entire burden of the University’s name resolution on these resolving DNS servers. Without an available recursive DNS server most of the University’s network dependent applications would stop functioning properly and non-University network resources would be effectively unreachable.
