Student Proxy

The student proxy provides caching facilities and authenticated quota-based access to Internet based resources for students of the University. Student proxy are enforced widely across student labs and wireless networks.

In alignment with information services service catalogue, the weekly Internet quota is 250MB for undergraduate students and 350MB for postgraduate students, respectively. Staff members of the university are also subjected to 1GB weekly quota through student labs or wireless networks. The quota limit only applies to Internet traffic outside the University network.

Students and staff members who exceeded their weekly quota, may have their Internet access restrcited to resources within the University network till quota resets on the following Monday. Student and Staffs requiring additional Internet quota for study/work related purposes, should seek appropriate approval (e.g. faculty GM, PHD supervisor, etc), which includes the revised new quota limit (in MBs) and the period new quota is applied ( e.g. Semester 1, 2008). The approval can then be forwarded to it-help@unimelb.edu.au for action.
