1. Report from Firewall Working Group
---------------------------------------------------------
A working group was formed as an action item from
the IT Users' Committee (ITUC). The objectives of
this group were to study the available firewall
solutions suitable for implementing a layer of
security and access control between the department
or faculty subnetwork, and the greater University
network. The report is a reference guide serving
as a review of a variety of the solutions available.
A checklist for project teams embarking on such a
project is also included. The report is available at:

2. Microsoft Security & Management Summit 2004
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft is holding this event on Wed 09 Jun 2004.
The IT Pro track has topics on managing the security
aspects of Windows computers, and the Developers track
addresses the implications of XP SP2. The event has no
attendance fee, but registration is required. More

3. Red Hat bulletins
------------------------------
Red Hat has released many bulletins in May. For
Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS v3 alone, there are 7
security updates, 50 bug fixes, and 19 enhancements.
Administrators are advised to review the bulletins
and apply relevant updates and patches. The bulletins
