Programmes Organised to Continually Improve IT Security

Programmes Organised to Continually Improve IT Security:

* Contact point between AusCERT (Australian Computer Emergency Response Team) and the University. Communication of most critical issues quickly, coordinating a central response to new issues.
The AusCERT website is at: http://www.auscert.org.au/

* Receive reports from University staff on IT Security incidents. Provide guidance to departmental staff for their investigation and rectification of issues, and coordinating central responses to departmental security events. Maintain records of IT Security incidents.
IT Security incidents can be reported at: http://www.infodiv.unimelb.edu.au/it-security/increport.html

* Computer Vulnerability Assessment Service (CVAS) is a service that provides pro-active detection and investigation of vulnerabilities in computing infrastructure. Detection and removal of vulnerabilities will lead to better IT Security in the University.
More information on CVAS is available at: http://www.infodiv.unimelb.edu.au/it-security/cvas.html

* Maintain a website for IT Security information relevant to the University, including guidelines, rules and regulations, alerts, news and advice.

* Coordinating the investigation, tracking and response to external reports on IT Security events which involve University computer systems.

* Provide training for computer users. Just as driving lessons help ensure safety on the roads, safe computing practises can avoid IT Security incidents.
Information on training courses is available at: http://www.infodiv.unimelb.edu.au/it-security/training.html

* Work with IT administrators in Faculties and Departments to provide alerts, advice and improve IT Security.
