REPORTING SUSPICIOUS EMAILS
Recommended: Attach the suspicious email within another email
Microsoft Outlook
* Compose a new email.
* Drag and drop the suspicious email from the Inbox (or other folder) into the body of this new email.
* Add comments in the new email if required.
* Send the new email to it-security@unimelb.edu.au
Macintosh Mail
* While pressing the control key, click on the suspicous email in the Inbox (or other folder).
* Click on Forward as an attachment
* Add comments in the new email if required.
* Send the new email to it-security@unimelb.edu.au

* Highlight the suspicous email in the Inbox (or other folder).
* Click on Message
* Click on Forward as an attachment
* Add comments in the new email if required.
* Send the new email to it-security@unimelb.edu.au
Alternative: Obtain the email headers of the suspicious email
Email headers are important when investigating suspicious emails. To send us a copy of the headers, refer to the following instructions according to your email application.
Microsoft Outlook
* Find the original message in the inbox list and right-click on it to bring up a menu.
* In this menu will be an entry called "options", click this.
* You will be presented with a dialog box. In the lower half of this dialog box will be the headers.
* If you can right-click inside that then click on "select all".
* Right click again to select Copy.
* Create a new email message.
* Paste the copied headers into the body of a new message.
* Send the new email to it-security@unimelb.edu.au
Eudora
* When reading an email message, look at the toolbar just above the message itself.
* There should be a button that reads "BLAH BLAH BLAH" in black and white.
* Click on this and the full headers will appear.
* If you can right-click inside that then click on "select all".
* Right click again to select Copy.
* Create a new email message.
* Paste the copied headers into the body of a new message.
* Send the new email to it-security@unimelb.edu.au
Entourage
* Open the message (double click it from the Inbox view).
* Click on the "Message" Menu.
* Select "Internet Headers".
* You will be presented with a dialog box with the headers.
* Click & Drag to highlight the complete headers.
* Copy this selection (Apple key + C).
* Create a new email message.
* Paste (Apple Key + V) the copied headers into the body of a new message.
* Send the new email to it-security@unimelb.edu.au
Mozilla Thunderbird
* Open the message (double click it from the Inbox view).
* Click on the "View" menu.
* Select "Message Source".
* You will be presented with a dialog box with the headers.
* Click & Drag to highlight the complete source text.
* Copy this selection.
* Create a new email message.
* Paste the copied text into the body of a new message.
* Send the new email to it-security@unimelb.edu.au
Outlook Web Access (owa.unimelb.edu.au)
This webmail application is unable to show the internet headers.
You will need to use a standard email client such as Outlook to view and send the original email headers.
University Webmail (webmail.staff.unimelb.edu.au or webmail.student.unimelb.edu.au)
* View the message and then find the link called "View Full Header".
* Click on this link.
* Highlight the whole headers as displayed.
* Right-Click your mouse and select Copy.
* Create a new email message.
* Paste the copied headers into the body of a new message.
* Send the new email to it-security@unimelb.edu.au
