ISC

Information Strategy Committee. ISC provides information technology policy advice to the University on the strategic use of current and emerging information technologies and their potential applications. The Committee has responsibility for development of integrated University IT Strategic Plan and Budget, encompassing divisional and faculty IT plans, which will have as goals the enhancement of the University's teaching, research, administration and community functions through innovative and strategic applications of IT. The Committee will recommend to Council, where necessary, regulations which will govern the implementation and use of such technologies.

ISTS

The Information Support for Teaching Spaces

ITUC

Information Technology Users Committee. ITUC's membership includes nominees of all faculties as well as members by virtue of their office. The Committee's primary function is to ascertain and evaluate the needs and wishes of members of the University on IT matters, to pay concern to the integration of all IT facilities, to keep current IT policies under review and to actively present its views on any IT policy or the operation of any IT policy to ISC.

LAN

Local Area Network. This includes workstations, servers and peripherals in a department or faculty. The University Network as a whole is generally referred to as a WAN.

LANAD

Local Area Network Administrator

LITE

Local Information Technology Expert

LITE/LANAD model

The devolved model of Information Technology support that underpins the IT support strategy for the University of Melbourne.

OEM

Original Equipment Manufacturer. It refers to a component which is supplied without full consumer packaging at a lower cost.

PPP

Point-to-Point Protocol

SDI

Systems Developments & Integration

SGML

Standard Generalised Markup Language - an internationally agreed standard for electronic publishing.

SIS

Student Information System

SITI

Systems & IT Infrastructure

CSS

Computer Supply and Support

WAN

Wide Area Network, for example The University of Melbourne Network.

WINTEL

Computers based on Intel 80486, Pentium or earlier processors in that line (or similar processors from other manufacturers), running Microsoft Windows system software
