University Number Ranges
One of the key benefits of the IPTel project is to address the enduring telephone number shortage, which has been a problem for many in the University. The existing 10,000 Parkville 8344 xxxx direct in-dial (DID) number range has been retained, and an additional 10,000 new continuous number range has been added. This solution addresses number range replacements for Parkville, some remote campuses and expansion requirements for the whole of the University.
Other outcomes include:
- The rural remote campuses end-users will retain their existing phone numbers and add an other range if required.
- The Melbourne metropolitan remote campuses end-users will use numbers from the 9035 xxxx number range.
- Non-users (resources), such as meeting rooms, will use numbers from the 9035 xxxx number range.
- Non-users (resources) such as faxes or modems will retain their existing number if it is a business requirement or will be given new numbers from the 9035 xxxx new number range.
