LAN Server Group

Welcome to the website of the LAN Server Group (LANSG).

The LANSG provides support for 'small servers' and those who manage them. A 'small server' is a server installed for workgroup, department or faculty level work purposes and primarily used to provide services which may include file and print sharing, web serving and streaming media.

LANSG staff maintain expertise in the Windows, Linux and Macintosh OS X Server Operating Systems.

The services provided by LANSG focused towards server administrators include:

• Contributing towards professional development by setting training standards and coordinating training courses
• Providing email, telephone and web-based advice on the diagnosis and correction of server and service problems
• Setting standards for secure server configuration and operation on the University network.

LANSG also provides infrastructure support for the University by hosting and managing servers used by the whole University, the Information Division, and for other departments under Facilities Management Agreements (FMA's) on a fee-for-service basis. The University-wide Active Directory is a core component of the infrastructure managed by the group.
