avast! 4 Home edition

Overview

The University recommends and supports the use of avast! 4 Home edition for staff and students on their privately-owned computer. Avast is available for free download and use - note that the free license is for home and non-commercial use only and the software must not be installed on University-owned computers or used for University work.

Avast! 4 Home edition features:

• automatic updates for virus definitions and the program itself
• a simple and clear user interface
• a "virus chest" allowing the quarantining of suspicious or dangerous files
• resident protection to help detect viruses before they infect your computer
• system integration with Windows Explorer allowing the easy launch of virus scans
• P2P and IM Shields
• Integrated Virus Cleaner
• Network Shield
• Web Shield
• Support for 64-bit Windows

Please note that may only be used for home and non-commercial use and must not be installed on University-owned computers.
