Remote control for computer presentations

The Keyspan Presentation Remote is a USB device that allows you to control computer-based presentations (for example, PowerPoint) without having to stand at the keyboard. It requires no software installation - simply plug it into a USB port on a PC or Mac, and it works within seconds.  It has been successfully tested on both PCs & Macs in shared teaching spaces.  It is the perfect tool if you are supporting your teaching with multimedia presentations in the lecture theatre or eSeminar room.

Why use it?

We encourage anyone wanting to improve the impact of their computer-based presentations to investigate this easy-to-use device.  Lecturers already using this tool have found that it liberates them from having to stand right next to the lectern or presentation table.  This tool will make it possible for you to move around the teaching space, which will add variety and interest to your presentation.  Your students will thank you for it!

How does it work?

This radio frequency remote works from up to 40 feet away and includes a laser pointer and full mouse control. There is no software to install.  It draws its power from the USB connection - a power adaptor is not required.

If you use any computer for multimedia presentations and the computer has a USB port, the Keyspan Presentation Remote will allow you to maximise your impact by freeing you from the keyboard forever. Just walk into your teaching space with a Presentation Remote in your pocket, simply plug in the USB dongle and you are in action with full remote mouse control within the palm of one hand.  You can add impact to your presentations by using the built in laser pointer to indicate and emphasise items on the screen.

The controls on the presentation remote include:

The Laser pointer includes a safety disarm feature to prevent accidental activation when the pointer is not being used; simply hold down the laser and white buttons for 6 seconds to arm or disarm the pointer feature.

Where can I purchase one?

Regrettably, due to repeated thefts and losses, we are no longer able to supply this technology in shared teaching spaces.  We encourage academic departments to purchase their own supplies to meet the requirements of their teaching staff.  The product can be purchased from most commercial suppliers of computer products or via IT User Services. It is our policy to refrain from recommending any particular external suppliers.

System requirements

The remote control uses one CR2450 (Lithium 3V) battery (included) which, under normal use, can be expected to last approximately one year.
