More innovative desktop environment

Future plans

In response to user feedback, to provide a more flexible environment, we are planning to extend the benefits of the dual boot Mac Mini environment, across eSeminar rooms and Learning suites, during summer recess 2008/09. Across these spaces, existing PCs will be withdrawn and replaced with the more flexible mac mini running Windows and Mac operating systems.

Favourable feedback

User feedback indicates that mac mini deployments for semester one 2008, across iMedia theatres/theatrettes and eLearning studios, have been successful in delivering a more flexible and convenient environment for teaching staff and students. This innovation followed two very successful pilots in 2007.

Current standards

In general, iMedia theatres/theatrettes with single data projection contain a dual boot Mac Mini that is capable of operating with either the Windows XP or Mac OS X operating system:

Mac minis start up in Windows XP by default when there is only a single computer installed.

iMedia theatres/theatrettes with dual data projection contain one PC and one dual boot Mac Mini:

Mac minis start up in Mac OS X by default when there are two computers installed.

We strongly encourage all teaching staff to review our Mac mini user guide prior to commencement of their teaching. This guide is available at:

Learning studios (except Chemistry-169) have dual boot iMacs installed in them.
