Multimedia guide: seminar rooms
These rooms are suitable for undergraduate and some postgraduate classes. They are most heavily utilised by departments in the Arts and Education faculties.
These rooms do not contain installed computers for presenters.
Minimum equipment specifications
- At least one moveable overhead projector (OHP) for transparencies
- DVD/VCR combo units (multi-zone) that also play CDs & VCDs
- TV monitor, either affixed to the presentation wall (most common), or attached to a portable trolley (generally in the largest rooms).
Access arrangements
Presenters need a "LEC" key to access cupboards/lecterns containing installed multimedia equipment. "LEC" locks were all upgraded December 2005.
If you need a new "LEC" key, please contact your departmental administration support.
Building supervisors will open these spaces in advance of all classes and events that have been pre-booked in the central timetable system. Campus security will perform this function during weekends and evenings, if classes and events are pre-booked in the central timetable system.
To ensure a safe and secure campus for all, Campus Security and building supervisors will decline to open spaces if there is no booking in the central timetable system.
Future plans
From October 2005 onwards, existing seminar rooms with capacity greater than 30 seats will be reviewed and where appropriate progressively converted to:
- eSeminar rooms - to meet demand for spaces of this type for postgraduate classes.
----OR----
- Student workshops.
----OR----
- Learning suites - where there is demand for spaces of this nature.
Over time, we anticipate moving towards more standardised capacities for these rooms – it is likely that we will aim for a minimum capacity of 20 students and maximum capacity of 30 students.
